The MERC SMS and Ancillary Documents
The MERC SMS structure consists of the MERC SMS Policy Document, which sets forth the basic policies and procedures for MERC safety management, and supporting Ancillary Documents, which set further policies and procedures for MERC safety management including inducting and onboarding new employees into the SMS, outlining current industry good practice and activity standard operating procedures, responding to emergencies, and keeping the MERC SMS secure, among others.

The MERC Safety and Activity Management Plans (AMPs) Ancillary Document covers current industry good practice in relation to the set-up; delivery; supervision structures; and minimum clothing, equipment, and communication requirements for MERC activities.
The MERC Hazard Register (HR) Ancillary Document – and the Risk Assessments (RAs) contained within – outline site, workplace, and/or activity hazards, as well as risk ratings and control measures for each hazard. Further, RAs outline required staff competencies, risk management requirements, and supervision requirements for each activity.
The MERC Emergency Response Procedure Ancillary Document details all MERC emergency response plans for foreseeable emergencies that do not pertain to activity-specific rescues or child abuse-related emergencies.
The MERC Child Safeguarding Policy Ancillary Document outlines MERCs commitment to the prevention of child abuse and contains policy and procedures to aid MERC staff in identifying and reporting suspected and alleged child abuse and bullying.
